St. Elizabeth Medical Center operates on a 25-acre site with 201 beds and employs 1,975 residents from the Utica, N.Y. area. St. Elizabeth maintains the philosophy that each person has the right to quality health care and extends that care throughout the area with 14 other community locations. Founded by Mother M. Bernardina in a small house on Columbia Street in Utica, Mother Bernardina wanted a place where the poor and neglected could be cared for by the sisters. The first patient was admitted on Dec., 12, 1866. The same concern and compassion that the founding sisters exhibited when they began this work continues today.
